Undercrossing the Danube, a unique project in Romania
ELM Electromontaj Cluj developed and implemented an extensive project in the Danube Delta area, to consolidate pillar foundations and modernize the 110 kV LEA. The works at Sarinasuf-Crişan came as a response to the massive degradations that occurred over time, the 110kV Sarinasuf-Crişan LEA being affected in the area of the crossing of the Sf. Gheorghe Arm by bank erosion.
The works mainly consisted in the repair and waterproofing of foundations and concrete pillars, the replacement of clamps, reinforcements and the damaged conductor, the installation of anti-vibrators and numbering and warning plates and the laying of the 110 kV cable.
The special conditions of this project occurred near the Danube Delta, where, as a solution to the classic options, the company proposed replacing the overhead power line with an underground power line, the proposed cable route having a length of approximately 2,100 m, of which 540 m undercross Braţul Sfântu Gheorghe.
This length of undercrossing executed is the largest in Romania, to date.
With the variant of the full under-crossing of the Danube, the inconveniences of the original project were eliminated: the impossibility of transporting the drilling equipment on the beam, the execution of the sleeve chamber in the flooded area of the beam.
